Background: Kelley represents sureties and businesses in construction disputes. She also represents businesses and individuals in other select civil disputes. She serves as general counsel for two Georgia corporations. Kelley has been recognized by Super Lawyers magazine in the area of surety law.
Kelley graduated with highest honors from Georgia Tech in 1994, earning a degree in Industrial Engineering. While studying at Georgia Tech, she was selected as one of only two undergraduates to work as an electromagnetism physics laboratory instructor due to her outstanding performance in physics. Kelley was also actively involved in campus life, serving in several offices for Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, including treasurer. She also served as a Solid Gold football recruiting hostess for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Kelley then went on to law school at the University of Georgia, where she graduated in 1997. While in law school, Kelley was an articles editor for the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law.
After law school, Kelley was an associate with a large Atlanta law firm, where her focuses were insurance coverage, insurance property disputes, and personal injury defense. During that time, Kelley represented insurance clients in all stages of litigation, including motions hearings, bench trials, jury trials and appeals.
In 2007, Kelley began working with Thompson & Slagle, LLC, a successful and nationally active, boutique surety law firm, where Kelley continued to work until 2022. While there, Kelley primarily represented sureties in all stages of claims, from pre-suit disputes, to trial court litigation and appellate forums. Kelley routinely represented sureties in disputes concerning indemnity contracts, performance bond claims, payment bond claims, probate bond claims and other bond claims. Kelley also defended insurers in personal injury claims, and in select cases, Kelley assisted plaintiffs in medical malpractice and personal injury claims, both pre-suit and in litigation.
In 2022, after the senior partner of her former firm retired, Kelley and John Alexander, also a long time attorney with Thompson & Slagle, LLC, formed Herrin & Alexander, LLC. Kelley’s practice continues to involve representing sureties in their many complex issues, representing contractors, owners and others in construction disputes, and representing businesses and others in select other civil disputes.
In her spare time, Kelley enjoys spending time with her family, friends, traveling the world and reading all sorts of non-fiction books.
