Meet Mike Egan

Mike Egan is Of Counsel with the firm. Throughout his practice, Mike has extensively represented sureties in payment and performance bond disputes and general contractors concerning public and private projects.  He has also represented public owners in construction disputes, including Georgia cities, counties and the Georgia DOT.  A significant part of his practice also  included counseling construction product manufacturers.

For over twenty years, Mike served on the American Arbitration Association’s Panel of Arbitrators for the construction industry.  Immediately after law school, Mike served as a law clerk to two federal district court judges in the Middle District of Georgia.  He is a past Vice-chair of the American Bas Association’s Fidelity & Surety Law Committee, of which he was a member for over thirty-five years.

Mike was a named partner his own firm for thirty-two years, Owen, Gleaton, Egan, Jones and Sweeney.  He and all the attorneys and staff of that firm joined in 2022 Stites & Harbison, a large law firm with offices in six states.  Mike took retirement in 2025, but missed law too much.  He was enticed back to his Of Counsel position with Herrin & Alexander.

Mike is a cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, where he was Notes Editor for the Georgia Law Review.  Mike was published in two law reviews, “Cost-Benefit Analysis in the Federal Courts:  Judicial Review under NEPA,” 9 Georgia Law Review 49 and “Civil Constitutional Law,” 31 Mercer Law Review 885.

Mike is a B.A. cum laude graduate in economics from Duke University and has an M.A. in economics from Duke.  His master thesis was published in 42 Southern Economic Journal 49 and another version of the thesis in 516 Transportation Research Record 35, “Income Redistribution Effects of the Atlanta Transit System.”

Other

Mike served as a Captain in the Judge Advocate Generals AG, Army

National Guard.  Mike has also served as a pro bono attorney for programs of the Atlanta Bar Association and the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Association. Mike has a working proficiency of French and was a Vice President of L’Alliance Française of Atlanta, a non-profit school and cultural center. For eighteen years he has been on the Board of Councilors of the Carter Center, Atlanta, GA.
